Afrocuden embarked on a significant initiative to educate West African basic schools about the rich tapestry of African cultures. This program, launched in November 2024, focuses on utilizing the poetic form of haiku to express and appreciate the diverse cultural heritage of the African continent.
The program has already reached 25 schools across West Africa, introducing students to the art of haiku and encouraging them to compose poems that reflect their own cultural experiences and perspectives. This creative approach fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation of African traditions, values, and artistic expressions.
The success of this program is attributed to the dedicated efforts of a committed team, including Timothy Ibitoye, Hope Dimka, Iman, Israel Marut, Jason Ndakotsu, and other invaluable contributors. Their passion and expertise have been instrumental in bringing this unique educational initiative to life.
The program has an allocated budget of approximately 5 million naira, with a breakdown as follows:
Resource Materials: 1 million naira (Funding the development and distribution of educational materials, including haiku workbooks, cultural resource guides, and teacher training manuals.)
School Visits & Logistics: 2 million naira (Covering travel expenses, accommodation, and logistical support for visiting schools and conducting workshops.)
Program Evaluation & Monitoring: 1 million naira (Allocating resources for program evaluation, data collection, and monitoring of program outcomes.)
Administrative Costs: 1 million naira (Covering administrative expenses, including staff salaries, office expenses, and communication costs.)
The program is ongoing until July 2025. Afrocuden is committed to expanding the reach of this program to more schools across West Africa, empowering young minds to connect with their cultural roots and celebrate the vibrant diversity of the African continent.
This initiative not only enriches the educational experience of students but also contributes to the preservation and promotion of African cultural heritage for generations to come.
